Introduction to Surveying
Definition, Branches of Surveying, Basic principles of Surveying, Basic measurements and fixing of details
Importance of surveying to Civil Engineers, Co-ordinate systems, Maps and Scales, Errors and their type in measurements
Survey of India system of map numbering,; Map index and map numbers at different scales, GTS Benchmarks
Linear and Angular Measurement
Different methods of distance measurement, tape measurements, corrections to linear measurements, Optical methods of distance measurements
Electronic methods of distance measurements (EDMI), Error sources in EDMI and calibration, Theodolite- Different types (Transit and Digital) and their salient  parts,  Basic terms, Fundamental lines
Measurement of horizontal and vertical angles, Temporary and permanent adjustments and tests



CA  REQUIREMENT:


Assignment 1:  (Last date of submission is 29th june'18)
Different methods of distance measurement, tape measurements, corrections to linear measurements, Optical methods of distance measurements ,Measurement of horizontal and vertical angles, Temporary and permanent adjustments and tests.

Assignment 2: (Last date of submission is 4th july'18)
 Definition and characteristics of contours, Methods of contouring and its usage,
Need of setting out; Control for setting out: Vertical and Horizontal control; Protection and referencing of controls

Project:  (Power point presentation and report of 10 pages on the topic below, last date is 6th July)


Importance of surveying to Civil Engineers, Co-ordinate systems, Maps and Scales, Errors and their type in measurements

Summer term Soil Mechanics cvl211 mid-term & CA requirements

1) MTE syllabus: Units 1-3 (phase diagram, effective stress, permeability)

2) CA requirements:
Project# 1: history of soil formation (various deposits) ~ 10 page report
Project# 2: study report on clay and sand properties~ 15 page report

Each student is required to submit the reports on BOTH the projects and also give individual presentations on each. The last date for submission and presentation is July 6, 2018.

The reports are to be HAND-WRITTEN and need to emailed to Dr. Gaurav Saini (gaurav.saini@sharda.ac.in)


Assignments: Hand-written assignment solutions need to be submitted by July 4, 2018. The assignment is available in next post. The assignments need to be emailed to Dr. Gaurav Saini (gaurav.saini@sharda.ac.in).
